Selling My Photos Online

I’ve decided to open an online store to sell my photos. I only have a few images online right now, but I’ll be adding more as I dig through our archives. I’ve got the famous “Solitaire” image as well as several from the Theta Pond shoot. I’ll be adding images from Boone Pickens Stadium and other OSU sites, Tulsa, Colorado, Charleston, and even the Will Rogers High School collage. Various print and canvas sizes are available as well as gift type items. For quick access, I’ve added a “Photo Store” link to the top of my blog. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Wildlife Photo Contest at Work

Help me select which photos to submit for a wildlife & nature photo contest at work. I have more photos than are allowed to be submitted. I have my favorites which I will submit, but I want other opinions as well. Take a look at the photos below and tell me which ones you like. Sony R1 Photos from Cherokee Spur

Gentry and I took a quick trip to the Cherokee Spur Ranch in Afton, OK. This 1,000 acre ranch overlooks Grand Lake and is a start-up business which offers weddings and event services, guided hunting tours, paint ball, skeet shooting, and other City Slicker excursions. Gen shot this wedding there several months ago. The owners liked her work and hired her to go back and shoot some photos for their website, brochures, etc… While we were there, I captured some fun photos including this black/yellow grasshopper with a Sony DSC-R1 in macro mode. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one like this before. Does anyone know what kind he is? There are also two panoramas of Grand Lake, OK — one during the day and one at sunrise. Each panorama is comprised of four images from the R1 stitched together using Windows Live Photo Gallery. Do you see the sail boat? Do you see The Peninsula Resort (formerly known as Shangri-La) in the background? To see these items you will need to view each image full-size.

8/20/08 Update: In the last panorama there are several cows near the pond. See if you can find them. You will need to view the photo in full size.

OSU Theta Pond Ducks & Geese, & Boone Pickens Stadium

Gentry had bridal and engagement shoots in Stillwater Saturday and I never turn down an opportunity to visit my college stomping grounds. While she was working, I took a walk, checked out the stadium progress, found my old percussion instructor and grabbed some shots at Theta Pond. The ducks and geese were cooperative today and I got some good photos. One goose was a little too aggressive and pecked my jeans a couple of times.

My favorite photo in the set is the black & white of “Blue & Rust.” That sculpture brings back a lot of good memories of good friends. Even though I was a horrible drummer (didn’t apply myself to drumming like I did actual school work), my best memories from college revolved around being in the OSU drumline. Before each game, the drumline would meet in front of that sculpture to warm up.

By the way, hit refresh and my blog’s banner image will change. Refresh enough times and you’ll eventually see the panoramas I made of the inside of Boone Pickens Stadium and the Library/Student Union areas.

Riley McRib – The Greyhound

Since a dachshund and a border collie weren’t enough, we got a greyhound. Yes, a long-legged, skinny bellied 11-month old greyhound. I would like to say that we rescued this dog as a retired racer to give her a good life after being used at the tracks. However, we had ulterior motives in mind. We got this dog thinking she would chase the coyotes that have been showing up at our back door. We didn’t even know we had coyotes until Romeo the Wiener Dog got attacked one night. (That’s funny… He survived his attack by some slobbery animal the same night I did in Norman.) Romeo’s attack made us nervous since we have two young kids who like to play outside and venture through the property. We had heard and read in several places that greyhounds will chase and hunt coyotes. I’m not sure why they do this, but it probably has something to do with greyhounds being a class of dog called a sight-hound. Sight-hounds see something flash by, they chase it. Well, that’s the idea anyway.

We’ve only had this dog two weeks and I’m not sure Riley (that’s her name) is up to the coyote challenge. This may be the nicest, most attention starved dog ever. As Jerry Seinfeld would say, she is a “close-talker” – she definitely gets in your personal space. If you sit on the floor, she will trot up to you and put her head into your chest. If you go to the restroom, she’ll follow you. In the short time we’ve had her, she has come out of her shell little-by-little. Hopefully in another few weeks her true personality will eventually appear and she will be a little more outgoing. However, I have a feeling that Riley may be just another family member and not the coyote chaser we had hoped. She’s even scared of the cat.

She is a very good dog. She lets the boys pull and tug on her. She barks (sometimes) when it’s time “to go.” She sleeps in her crate all night without making a peep. She loves to run! Here is a video of her running “zoomies” the first day at our house. (BTW, we’re not white-trash, those dilapidated barns in the video were on our property when we bought it.)

We named her Riley after Andrea Riley the sophomore point guard for Oklahoma State University’s women’s basketball team. Both Rileys are a little undersized, but lightening quick. Our Riley’s full name is Riley McRib (because we ate at McDonald’s on the night we picked her up), but we also considered Riley Coyote and Riley Cyrus. If she was a male, we would have named her Bullet — you OSU fans know why.
